Delta Speaks Out

When I came to college, I wanted an experience. I wanted something life-altering and something that I would remember for the rest of my life. The only problem was that I didn’t know how to achieve this. How do you do something great? How do you set yourself apart? The answers to these questions didn’t come overnight. It happened through a journey.

Now when I came to college, I didn’t want anything to do with fraternities. I thought for the most part, they were just a big waste of time. I also had no idea that there were any South Asian, let alone multicultural fraternities. But when I got to Baylor University I saw a general trend of people being part of various fraternities and sororities and I didn’t understand it.

After crossing into Delta I realized what it meant to be a part of something bigger than myself. I learned the true meaning of brotherhood, and I finally understood why people join various fraternities and sororities. This fraternity in the short time that I have been in it has made me into something more, and into something better. It is always making me grow as a person and I couldn’t ask for better brothers.

I crossed with five other extraordinary gentlemen. Some, who I knew very well before process, and some I hadn’t really talked to all that much. But the great thing was that right off the bat we had a connection. These are the men who I could be doing absolutely nothing with and still have a good time. They truly are my brothers. We might have been good friends, but it was the process that made us into brothers.

The process of course wasn’t easy, but it’s for that reason why the people who truly join this fraternity are something special. We aren’t ordinary. We are the few, the exceptional, and the group of very proud individuals on a number of campuses across the nation. The work and effort that we put into service, academics, and our own brothers are the reasons why we are so great.

Although my journey with Delta Epsilon Psi has only just begun, I have already grown tremendously as a person and a Brother. I know I have a lot to learn from the older brothers, and I’m ready to bring my own experiences and teachings to the fraternity. If you were to ask me if I have done something worthwhile, or something life altering, I would say sort of. I know I have crossed into an amazing fraternity, but I know I still have a lot of work to do and more experiences to be had. The journey has really just begun.
